2nd Grade Teacher

The Magellan International School is seeking self contained lead teacher. Our rapidly growing multi-cultural school has a Spanish and Mandarin immersion academic program that follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program (PYP). We are looking for dynamic, inspirational educators with a minimum of three years experience as homeroom teachers. The self-contained teachers must be fully bilingual. A strong background in constructivism, early childhood development, and inquiry based learning, and training and/or experience with the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program are essential.  It is vital to be a team player and willing to engage in curriculum development.  Austin is one of America´s great cities with a thriving intellectual community gathered around The University of Texas, and a high technology corridor both of which are adjacent to the lovely Hill Country of Central Texas.  The compensation package is highly competitive and will be based on credentials and experience.  Benefits include: Health care for the employee, settling in allowance, and transportation at the beginning and end of service at the school for those relocating to Austin for the position, and opportunities for professional development.

Professional Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree (Degree in elementary education or early childhood development preferred)
• Experience and/or training in PYP
• A minimum of three years experience in working with early childhood and/or elementary aged students
• Experience with authentic assessment practices
• Experience in integrating IT with teaching
• Experience with inquiry-based, activity-based and hands-on learning
• Experience with using a multi-cultural approach to promote learning
• Experience with writing and planning a curriculum
• Experience in differentiating teaching techniques
• Ability to create a stimulating classroom environment
• Ability to utilize the local context and environment to enhance learning
• Ability to work with parents
• Ability to teach in Spanish and English
