Barbara Fortuny was born in Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico. She attended the Universidad Marista de Mérida where she specialized in International Law and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Law with Honors. She worked in several government offices such as City Hall and the State Congress where she provided legal advice and support to citizens and helped groups in the rural areas organize themselves as social cooperatives.
While attending college, Barbara spent a semester at Jardín de Niños Aprendices where she worked with pre-school students on developing their artistic skills through dance, music, and theater. As the organizer for the Annual Festival of Choreography, Barbara was responsible for choosing music and costumes as well as rehearsing the dances with the children. She believes these artistic and expressive activities are key for the development of children´s self-esteem and social skills.
Barbara thinks that an education with solid values, principles, and knowledge of different cultures is the root of success in life. She is happy to be part of the MIS staff.
