Carmen Helena Centeno, Teacher

Country of Origin: Venezuela
Education: BA in Education, MS in Multicultural Studies

Mrs. Carmen H Centeno is originally from Caracas, Venezuela. She has worked in two countries in Venezuela as an English Teacher for grades 4th through 6th and in the USA (Florida) in Preschool, as a Lead Teacher and Curriculum Coordinator.

She studied in the International School of Curaçao during her middle school years. She received her BA in Early Childhood Education from the Universidad Catolica Andres Bello in Venezuela. Later, she received a Master of Science Degree in Multicultural Studies from the University of Houston at Clear Lake, with specializations in Bilingual Education and ESL (English as a Second Language) teaching.

During her experience in Preschool in Florida, she worked with the PYP (Primary Years Program) and implemented the Visible Thinking Routines (Project 0, Harvard University, Howard Gardner and David Perkins). While doing so she found a new and better way to teach and prepare children for the new challenges of the 21st century.

Carmen is very interested in MIS' multicultural and multilingual program because she thinks she could contribute with her Thinking Routines knowledge to the enrichment of this program. Carmen really believes that her mission as a teacher is to help students achieve their full potential as caring and responsible human beings and as useful members of our society, by providing them with the best education possible through bilingual and multicultural programs.

Furthermore, she says: "I’m very excited to become a member of the Magellan family as a Kindergarten Teacher. I am amazed by the parents’ interest and engagement in the Magellan School’s bilingual and multicultural program".

Carmen loves to travel, read, dance, make new friends and get to know different cultures.
