Marion E. Rocco, Librarian & Communications Assistant
| Country of Origin: | United States |
| Education: | BA in Education & Child Study, MS in Information Studies |

Marion began learning Spanish as an elementary student at the Austin Waldorf School. She continued to study the Spanish language as part of her high school academic program at Walnut Hill School, a private performing arts school where she also received pre-professional training in ballet and modern dance.
Although she began Smith College as a Spanish Language & Literature major, Marion switched to Education & Child Study in order to learn more about how young students read, learn, and think. She was one of ten student fellows chosen to participate in a yearlong interdisciplinary study on childhood through the Kahn Liberal Arts Institute, and she complemented her academic focus by working in the Children’s Department of the Northampton Public Library.
Since graduating, Marion’s love for reading and learning have led her to a variety of positions within both publishing and education. She remains grateful to have had the remarkable opportunity to work for children’s book author and illustrator Eric Carle in his studio in western Massachusetts. It was here that Marion developed a deep appreciation for the power of children’s books to develop verbal and visual literacy skills in young readers, open windows of understanding into other peoples and cultures, and serve as a springboard for creative and critical thinking.
Marion returned to The University of Texas at Austin to pursue the Master of Science in Information Studies with the goal of joining a community of learners as the school librarian. Marion believes that the library plays an essential role in developing students’ love of languages and reading as well as their research, critical thinking, and information literacy skills.
Marion is incredibly excited to join the Magellan International School. She looks forward to building library programs and services that support the school’s mission, vision, and values, and she hopes that she can be a resource for all members of the school community.
