Diversity and Inclusion at MIS

The Magellan International School….

  • Believes diversity is instrumental to our mission and enriches the education provided for all students through a range of perspectives, talents and experiences.
  • Has a broad definition of diversity and embraces students and families of diverse backgrounds without regard of socioeconomic and family composition, race, color, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, religious belief, learning style, national and ethnic origin.
  • Does not discriminate on any basis in the administration of its educational policies, admissions policies, financial aid programs, athletic and other school-administered programs.

“Diversity is instrumental to our mission and a fundamental part of the education provided for all students. We celebrate and value the diversity of our students and their families, our faculty and administration, our alumni and of the communities of which we are a part. We believe we are made richer by the range of perspectives, talents, identities and experiences across
these differing backgrounds.

We recognize that diversity and inclusion as concepts continue to evolve and are committed to evolving with them.” – The Magellan International School 2016-2019 Strategic Plan.

Diversity and Inclusion, as it relates to Prospective and Current Students and Families

The Magellan International School accepts applications for enrollment without regard to race, gender, religion or national origin. Initial and continued enrollment will be at the discretion of the Head of School, based upon the feedback from the Director of Admissions, teachers, counselors, Heads of Section, the best interest of the child, the welfare of other children in the classroom, and the expectation that the child will benefit from the program.

The Magellan International school admissions policy is “need blind”. In other words, a family’s ability to pay the tuition fees is not a factor in our decision to admit the student(s). At Magellan, the decision to admit a student is based on the student’s academic performance at their previous/current institution, the results of our assessment and alignment of our school’s mission and the family’s goals for their child/children’s education.

The Magellan International School does not guarantee an offer of financial assistance to fully meet the needs of any and all families that apply for financial aid; awards are based upon the financial aid budget of the school in each fiscal year, as approved by the Board of Directors. At this time, The Magellan International School does not offer merit-based or special interest related scholarships.

The Magellan International School considers the admission of a new student to be a major decision. Therefore, this process focuses on the identification of the applicant’s knowledge, talents, skills and expectations. Magellan offers support and resources to students identified as having mild to moderate learning disabilities, and can provide a challenging educational environment to students who are advanced in various areas and skills. We can tailor learning to meet individual needs through differentiation, increasing engagement, and support students in all aspects of school life. However, we do not offer an accelerated curriculum for individual students.
