Admissions Process

Making the right choice your in child’s education is a crucial decision, and we are here to help you learn how Magellan can support your child’s intellectual growth and success. The Admissions Committee reviews all applications and carefully considers every applicant. Please follow these steps to apply, and contact us if you have questions or concerns.

 

Step 1: Submit an Online Application for Admissions
Our online application will help you navigate the process. The application is divided into several sections, including contact details, academic and other school information, short questions. The form will autosave your entries, so you may log out and resume your application at any time. A non-refundable application fee of $120 is due upon submission, and can be paid by credit card.

Step 2: Confidential Evaluation Form

When you log in to your family’s online account, you will have the option to request a confidential evaluation directly from your child’s teacher.  (They will be provided with detailed instructions via email on how to download, complete and return their recommendation online.) The evaluation form can provide our Admissions Committee with a sense of your child’s personality, strengths, interests and gifts.

Step 3: Observation/Assessment

An observation (for Preschool and Kindergarten applicants) or an assessment (for 1st-8th grade applicants) is a required part of the admission process. These sessions lasts approximately an hour and can be scheduled directly with our admissions office.

Step 4: Family Interview

Family interviews are a required part of the admission process. The interview lasts approximately 45 minutes and consists of a meeting between the applicant’s parents and a member of the admissions committee. The interviewer will go over the observation/assessment results.

Step 5: Admissions Decisions

When your application has been submitted and the observation/assessment and interview is completed, the Admissions Committee will meet to discuss the applicant. Notification of admissions decisions are usually emailed within a week. 

Step 6: Financial Aid

MIS is committed to supporting a financial aid program for students who lack the financial resources to meet the cost of tuition. To qualify for this program families must apply for financial aid by March 4, 2016.  Funds for 2016-17 have been distributed.
