After School
Activities

Through partners, a variety of after-school activities are offered on a semester basis. These programs offer once/week activities that allow students to further develop interest in, from flamenco to coding, from drones to tennis, or from art to martial arts!
Take a look here at the weekly schedule for both campuses. Then use the filters below to narrow it down by grade / day to view more details, contact information, and registration links for all activities.
Ancient Antics
Ancient Antics
Activities are STEAM based (science/tech/engineering/ art/math) which means we will slyly expose kids to science hidden in a historical curriculum. But we also have lots of projects that allow kids to explore their inner artist. Each week we explore ancient earth with its erupting volcanoes and bad boy dinosaurs, learn about Mesopotamian ziggurats dedicated to angry gods, and visit the desert tombs of Egyptians. We topple the temples of Greek gods and goddesses, take on gladiators in the Colosseum and lay siege to the Great Wall of China. After that, we fight off blood-thirsty Aztecs, and go toe to toe with swashbuckling pirates.

1-on-1 music lessons for the young musical explorer!
Since 2015, we’ve been partnering with Magellan to bring music lessons to the Magellan community.
Lessons are 30 minutes, once per week, at the same day/time each week, culminating in an end-of-semester performance.

– No experience needed.
– Also for non-beginners.
– Students will be expected to have a piano or keyboard at home, and to practice each week in preparation for their next lesson.
Songwriting Lessons: For 3rd graders and up. Students will learn how to play their favorite songs (their choice!), and then they’ll write their own!
– No experience needed.
– Students will be expected to have a keyboard or guitar at home, and to practice each week in preparation for their next lesson.

Cooking Classes for Kids
Cooking Classes for Kids
Our recipes tend to be easy and colorful using mostly fresh ingredients. We also have fun names for our recipes, too, because we find “Super-Power Smoothie” or “Godzilla Veggie Bites” encourage students to try new foods. Children are inspired to share their cooking experiences when they return home. We provide the recipes, cooking tips and talking points to create recipe sharing and learning at home easier and more fun. And because we want every student to love the food, our focus is on “slightly healthier” balanced recipes, with treats here and there.

Intro to Yoga
Intro to Yoga
This workshop offers an introduction to yoga and no prior experience is required. All the postures taught are beginner-friendly with focus on foundation and alignment. Each session will include : – a guided yoga practice – an introduction to some of the core principles & philosophies of Yoga (8 Limbs of Yoga, origin, 5 elements, foods for a healthy mind & body, etc.) – Practical applications of the yoga to support injury prevention (in sports/ dance), posture, flexibility, strength, immunity, sleep, digestion, etc. When we become more familiar with this mind-body practice (through first hand experience) we start to understand what makes yoga different from exercise. Participants will receive sequences, easy yoga-related homework and other similar activities to explore on their own (in between sessions). We’ll have friendly challenges & check-ins for those who wish to participate during the weeks we don’t meet in person. What we learn from a yoga practice really goes a long way and we’ll be talking more about that during our sessions. I am really looking forward to this workshop for 5th – 8th grade mainly because each workshop is unique! It is always customized for those who are participating because Yoga is all about the person who practices and the community created through the practice. Note : After registration and prior to our first meeting, students will receive a short google form via parent’s email to share their requests for areas of interest.

Sound is an important component of this program and we’ll enjoy a mix of global / world music in our sessions. The movement lab component is set up as as a playful structure for students to explore the elements of yoga through a creative process. We’ll experiment with use of breath work, spatial awareness, rhythms both synchronous and asynchronous, yoga postures and much more. This truly is mindful movement at play! Waterloo Swimming
Waterloo Swimming
Through our programming, your child will learn not only life-saving skills but also the ability to swim for fitness throughout his/her life. You are truly giving your child a chance to be fit for life.
Our Group Swim Lesson class size is up to 4 swimmers in a class. This low swimmer / teacher ratio gives your swimmer more repetitions during the class time. We currently have the Teaching Pool configured to 10′ x 20′ sections to space the kids out better. And the training pool swimmers are taught in a 25 yard lane.
We are excited to be able to provide an indoor facility with a teaching pool for our Learn to Swim programs and then the ability to grow into our training pool(stroke school) to further improve swimming technique and endurance. Our teaching pool is maintained at a very comfortable 88*F while the training pool at 80*F.
Our Program was developed years ago based on getting results for kids to learn to swim. Over the years we have fine-tuned the classes to make improvements as we developed new methods and techniques for teaching swimming skills.
Each Learn to Swim and Stroke School class has four parts to it: Greeting, Warm-Up, Skill-work and Reward. Our instructors work to ensure each student feels welcome to the class and ready to learn new skills and/or grow current skills. Our levels of classes have multiple skills that need to be mastered prior to graduating to the next level. Our instructors have the capability to teach individual skills to each student in the class – so you might see each student working on different skills. Our reward system at the end of the class is for students that work hard and/or attempt new skills. We have found that this reward-based multi-skill class environment has yielded quicker results than solely focusing on one skill at a time.
Please register at : https://app3.jackrabbitclass.com/regv2.asp?id=511411&hc=2,3,4,5,6,8,9,10 and include in the comments that you are interested in joining the Magellan Monday or Wednesday class.
