Exciting changes are underway at Magellan! Our new 14-acre Bull Creek Campus is now open, serving Kindergarten through High School. Graduates may earn the prestigious IB Diploma, the Global Impact Diploma (GID) or design their own unique pathway with a mix of both.
We welcome applications from non–Spanish-speaking students for entry into Preschool, Kindergarten, and Grades 6 through High School. Please note that for admission into Grades 1 through 5, a background in Spanish is required.Join us as we embrace this bright new chapter in Magellan's journey!

- We are the only secular, independent school in the nation to offer the full International Baccalaureate Program — PYP, MYP, and DP — in a bilingual setting.
- Magellan is one of Austin’s most diverse independent schools, bringing together families from across cultures, languages, and perspectives. More than 64% of our families identify as non-white.
- Magellan is growing. In fall 2024, we opened our new Kindergarten through High School campus in Northwest Austin, followed by the expansion of our Preschool campus in spring 2025. Enrollment continues to grow across the school, particularly in Preschool, 6th grade, and 9th grade.
Does my child have to know Spanish?
No prior Spanish language experience is required for early childhood or older entry points at Magellan International School.
- Preschool through Kindergarten (Early Childhood): No Spanish background is required.
Language acquisition happens naturally through full Spanish immersion. - Grades 1 through 5 (Primary School): A background in Spanish is required for admission.
Applicants participate in a half-day campus visit and a grade-level Spanish assessment to determine their eligibility. - Grades 6 through High School (Secondary School): No previous Spanish experience is required.
Students entering Middle or High School join our specialized Spanish Language Acquisition program to build language proficiency rapidly.

What is International Baccalaureate?
The International Baccalaureate (IB) framework is a globally recognized, transdisciplinary curriculum that teaches students how to think, rather than just what to learn. Rather than focusing strictly on rote memorization, the IB program emphasizes real-world application, critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and world language proficiency.
As an official IB Continuum School in Austin, Magellan offers this rigorous academic framework across all grade levels (PYP, MYP, and DP), providing a seamless educational pathway that makes graduates highly competitive candidates for top universities worldwide.
