• What is a language immersion school?

  A true immersion school, Magellan students learn in Spanish from native speakers from more than a dozen countries across the globe. Students spend on average 70% of the school day learning in Spanish. Through this immersive experience, our students typically become fully bi-literate. In addition to Spanish, conversational Mandarin is added beginning in third grade.

• Do kids need to know Spanish before attending an immersion school?
  

  At Magellan International School, students do not need prior Spanish experience when entering preschool - Kindergarten, or grades 6 and up.
  
  

  The majority of our families primarily speak English at home.

• How Is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Different From Other Curriculums?

  The International Baccalaureate (IB) is an educational framework that aims to develop internationally-minded, compassionate and lifelong learners who can contribute positively to a rapidly changing world.

  
  IB teaching emphasizes student-centered, inquiry-based learning that encourages student agency rather than relying heavily on lectures, textbooks, exams, and homework. You will see our students up and moving about, putting their knowledge into action rather than sitting at desks all day. Their work is evaluated on their understanding and application of knowledge, as well as the development of critical thinking, creativity, and communication skills, not just rote memorization.

  
  Another important distinction of an IB education is the emphasis on the development of international-mindedness, intercultural understanding, and a global perspective. Students are encouraged to learn about different cultures, languages, and perspectives, and to engage in community service and other activities that promote global awareness.

• Is Magellan International School a Religious School?

  No. Magellan is completely secular and welcomes students of all or no religious affiliation.

• Does Magellan Offer Before- and After-School Care?

  Yes. Early drop off is available every day and after school care and enrichment programs are available until 6 PM each with an associated fee.

  
  Daily Schedule
  

  • Preschool - 8:30 AM to 3 PM
  • Primary School - 8:10 AM to 3:20 PM
  • Middle School - 8:45 AM to 4 PM

• Does Magellan Provide Lunch for Students?

  Yes. You may sign your child up for the optional paid  lunch program. We strive to partner with lunch providers that offer flexible, healthy, and tasty choices that students will love and parents can feel good about. Of course, students may also bring their own lunches.

• Does Magellan Have a School Uniform or Dress Code?

  Students in Preschool - 8th grade wear uniforms daily with the exception of free dress and spirit days throughout the year. Students can wear the comfortable, closed-toed shoes of their choosing - most wear sneakers.
  
  Additionally, throughout the year our Parent Association holds uniform resales as a convenient, affordable, and green option to purchase uniforms as your student grows.
  
  Students in 9th grade and above do not wear uniforms, but do have a designated dress code to follow.

• What Is the School Year Calendar at Magellan?

  Magellan has four, week-long breaks each year including Fall Break which takes place in October. We are also closed for most national holidays. On some holidays and during Fall and Spring Break we offer camps for families who need care during this time. Our Admissions team would be happy to provide you will more details on the full calendar.
