Hello and welcome to Magellan International School! We’re so glad you’ve taken the time to learn more about our special school. So why us? Magellan is a unique school in Austin and nationwide. We are a nationally accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) school paired with Spanish immersion. In essence, this means rather than just memorizing data our students learn to think critically, ask thoughtful questions, and take action in and responsibility for their own learning – and they do so in both English and Spanish.

First things first

Does my child have to know Spanish?

Students typically start Magellan in the preschool years and have no background in Spanish. They learn together and quickly acclimate to a primarily Spanish-speaking environment. That being said, beginning in fall 2023, Magellan will be admitting non-Spanish speaking students in grade 6. If applying for 2-5, students will need to have some background in Spanish. They will be given a grade-level appropriate Spanish assessment to determine their eligibility for entrance.

What is international Baccalaureate?

The International Baccalaureate is a set of challenging programs that aim to develop inquiring, knowledgeable, and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

An IB education provides opportunities to develop both disciplinary and transdisciplinary understanding through curriculum frameworks and courses that are broad and balanced, conceptual and connected.  The program provides an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education and is recognized by many universities worldwide.
