Charting Their Own Paths: Magellan Partners with College MatchPoint
A new team-based college counseling program will provide Magellan students with individualized guidance, specialized expertise and a global perspective—beginning as early as ninth grade.
At Magellan International School, we believe students should graduate with more than a diploma and a college acceptance. They should understand who they are, recognize the possibilities available to them and feel prepared to make thoughtful decisions about what comes next.
That belief is at the heart of a new partnership between Magellan and ESM Prep | College MatchPoint (CMP), an established Austin-based college counseling firm.
Through this partnership, Magellan high school students and families will receive comprehensive, individualized support throughout the college and career exploration and admissions process.

“The college admissions landscape has become increasingly complex, and students today are navigating an extraordinary range of academic, career and post-secondary opportunities,” said Dr. Jonathan Silver, Head of School at Magellan International School. “Our goal is not simply to help students gain admission to college. It is to help them understand their interests and strengths, explore meaningful possibilities and make thoughtful decisions about their future.”
The Strength of a Team-Based Approach
Rather than placing the full breadth of college and career planning within a single school-based position, Magellan students will benefit from the collective knowledge of three college consultants, a Program Director and specialists representing a variety of academic and professional fields.
This model gives each student consistent, personalized guidance while also connecting them with expertise tailored to their individual interests. The College MatchPoint team includes specialists in areas such as architecture, engineering and business, as well as counselors experienced in domestic and international university admissions.
CMP also brings a genuinely global perspective and strong Spanish-speaking roots that align naturally with Magellan’s identity as an IB World School and a Spanish immersion school.

- Approximately 50 hours of personalized coaching throughout high school
- A student-to-counselor ratio of approximately 20:1
- College and career exploration based on each student’s interests and strengths
- Guidance on extracurricular activities and high school planning
- Support throughout the application and essay-writing process
- Access to specialists in specific academic and career fields
- Guidance for students considering universities in the United States and around the world
- Support with financial aid and other important aspects of the college decision-making process
This comprehensive program will be provided to Magellan families at no additional cost.
Different Pathways, Individual Possibilities
The College MatchPoint partnership complements Magellan’s commitment to providing students with multiple pathways to graduation.
Students may pursue the globally recognized IB Diploma, the project- and experience-based Global Impact Diploma, or a flexible Magellan Diploma that allows them to create a customized course of study drawing from Magellan’s academic offerings.
These pathways recognize that students have different strengths, interests and aspirations. College and career guidance should be just as individualized.
Through their work with College MatchPoint, students will be able to connect the choices they make during high school with the opportunities they hope to pursue afterward. A student interested in international study may require a very different plan from one pursuing engineering, entrepreneurship, the arts or another emerging field. The partnership gives each student access to the expertise needed to explore those possibilities with intention.
Beginning Earlier and Looking Further Ahead
Formal individualized college counseling will begin in high school, but preparing students to make meaningful choices begins much earlier.
Throughout Middle School and High School, Magellan helps students develop the self-awareness, curiosity, independence and goal-setting skills that support future planning. Magellan’s Secondary School teams will work alongside College MatchPoint to create a coherent progression—from students’ early exploration of their interests to their eventual college, career and post-secondary decisions.
