Questions & Answers

WHERE IS THE NEW CAMPUS LOCATED?

Northwest Austin on Loop 360 (Capital of TX Hwy) north of 2222. The property is surrounded by nature and includes two buildings on 14 acres. Each building is 44,000 square feet. It will be home to our K-12 students, faculty, and staff.

WHEN WILL STUDENTS MOVE TO THE NEW CAMPUS?

If we meet fundraising goals and construction deadlines, we will follow the timeline below:

AUG 2023: Middle School students
JAN 2024: Primary School students (Kinder – 5)

Note: Preschool students (PP3 & PP4) will remain at the Chimney Corners campus through June 2024. It is our goal that the preschool program moves to a new, independent facility in northwest Austin in August 2024.

WHAT’S THE GROWTH PLAN ? HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL BE ENROLLED?

By fall 2026, we expect to grow to 150 students on our preschool campus and 550 students on our K-12 campus.

  • Preschool (PP3 & PP4) – 5 classes per grade level
  • Kindergarten: 4 classes
  • Grades 1 – 12: 3 classes per grade level
  • Expand the current IB Middle Years Program to serve students in grades 6 – 10.
  • Add the IB Diploma Program for students in grades 11 – 12.
WILL THERE BE A HIGH SCHOOL?

Yes. The High School with IB Diploma Program will grow each year as our students advance. The first Diploma Program class will graduate in 2027.

WILL MAGELLAN ADMIT STUDENTS THAT DON’T SPEAK SPANISH YET?

Magellan will admit non-Spanish speakers in grade 6 in Fall 2023. We will systematically add classes in English by grade level as these students advance.

Spanish as a second language will be taught to newly admitted students.

The current Spanish immersion model in PP3-grade 5 will remain unchanged.

HOW IS MAGELLAN DIFFERENT THAN OTHER SCHOOLS?

Magellan will be 1 of 4 independent secular schools in the US, and the only one in Texas, to offer the full International Baccalaureate continuum from Preschool through High School.

We help our students grow into resilient, empathetic and inquisitive individuals who think critically and creatively and who possess the courage and conviction to take action. Visit our Admissions page to learn more.

WHAT IS THE PROJECT COST?

The cost of the building is $23M and retrofitting it is estimated at $12M. Magellan has a fundraising goal of $10M. The remaining amount will be financed. Extensive financial modeling has been completed to ensure the long-term financial health of Magellan. Never the less, enrollment and charitable giving are vital to maintaining our fiscal well-being.
