Primary School Art Show Showcases Creativity and Inquiry at Magellan International School

Last week, Magellan International School’s Primary School halls were transformed into a colorful student gallery during the annual Primary School Art Show. Families, faculty, and students enjoyed an inspiring collection of artwork that celebrated creativity, curiosity, and student voice across every grade level.
More than an art exhibit, the show highlighted how students at Magellan use the arts to deepen learning through the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme. Each display connected to classroom Units of Inquiry, demonstrating how art can help students explore ideas, communicate understanding, and make meaningful connections to the world around them.

Creativity Connected to Learning

From kindergarten through fifth grade, students showcased work in a wide variety of mediums including painting, collage, sculpture, ceramics, weaving, printmaking, watercolor, and mixed media.

Kindergarten students explored nature and imagination through bird-themed creations, sculptures, and expressive paintings connected to the unit Sharing the Planet.
First graders designed dreamlike landscapes and imaginative creatures while studying identity and the natural world.

Second graders experimented with symbols, music, and abstract design through colorful collages, woven works, and projects inspired by artists who used shape and sound to communicate ideas.

Third graders examined history and storytelling through metal tooling and printmaking inspired by ancient cultures and symbols.

Fourth graders explored architecture, sustainable communities, and watercolor techniques through cityscapes and geometric designs.

Fifth graders presented striking self-portraits, ceramics, and advanced printmaking projects that reflected both technical growth and personal expression.

Why the Arts Matter at Magellan

At Magellan, art is more than creating something beautiful—it is an important part of how students learn to think critically, solve problems, express themselves, and build confidence.

Through hands-on creative experiences, students develop skills that support success across all subjects while learning to reflect, take risks, and share their perspectives with others.

As an Austin private school offering Spanish immersion and a full IB continuum, Magellan is proud to provide students with an education that values academics, creativity, and global-minded learning.

A Celebration of Student Talent

The Primary School Art Show was a joyful reminder of the imagination and talent within our community. We extend a heartfelt thank you to our dedicated art teachers for curating such a meaningful exhibition and to every student whose work brought our campus to life.

We are proud to celebrate the artists, thinkers, and creators growing at Magellan every day.
