Starting preschool is a big step, and a consistent routine can help your child feel safe and confident. Here are our top first day of preschool tips to make mornings smoother for everyone:
Be prepared before you arrive — Have your child’s lunch box ready, backpack packed, and breakfast finished at home (not in the car) for a calm, organized start.
Create a goodbye ritual — A short and sweet phrase, hug, or handshake gives your child comfort and consistency each morning.
Bring a comfort object — A small lovey, blanket, or family photo can help your child feel connected while at school (please leave toys at home).
Allow them to express their feelings — It’s normal for children to cry or cling at drop-off, especially in the first weeks. Offer reassurance without comparisons to siblings or friends.
Remind them you’ll be back — Let your child know you’ll return at the end of the day, and share something you’ll do together in the evening to give them something to look forward to.
🎥 Helpful Resource: Watch School’s First Day of Schooltogether before their first day — it’s a wonderful story that can ease first-day jitters.
💡 Parent Note: In our full Spanish immersion preschool, new students may be more tired than usual during the first few weeks. This is a normal part of adjusting to a new routine and language-rich environment.
